Future Missionary Field Internship
Overview
Field Internships are typically provided to gain experience, training, and discernment, for those who are serious about pursuing a missionary career. They are usually 2-15 months in length. Field internships are usually custom-designed for each future missionary based upon a number of factors. Contact Matt Macy ([email protected]) to learn more.
How to Sign Up for a Field Internship
1. Complete online application. Please note that as a part of the application process, you will need to create a free Service Reef account.
2. Receive approval to participate in the Field Internship.
3. Pay $300 non-refundable deposit to EFM. You can send a check or pay online here. Please clearly mark with your name and internship in which you are participating.
Eligibility Requirements for Field Internships:
Spiritual Life and Calling
- A clear testimony to the new birth through personal faith in Jesus Christ and the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
- Knowledge of Scripture and a demonstrated ability to live according to its teachings.
- Exemplify a life of consecration and divine grace through daily prayer, Bible study, testimony, and service.
- Demonstrate the ability to share their own experience with Jesus Christ, helping others find a personal relationship with Him.
- Have a growing sense of God's call to cross-cultural service.
Church Membership and Doctrine
- Member of an Evangelical Friends church.
- Agree with the faith and practice of their home region/yearly meeting.
- Have read and agree with EFM’s mission and vision statement.
- Have read and agree with EFM’s Statement of Faith.
- Have read and agree to cooperate with EFM’s Lifestyle Statement.
- Have read and agree to cooperate with the policies and procedures contained in EFM’s Field Handbook.
Physical and Psychological Fitness
- Exemplify an ongoing commitment to physical and psychological health.
- Demonstrate physical and psychological health by successfully completing assessments required by EFM for missionary service.
Compatibility with Others
- Demonstrate the capacity to work under the authority of others.
- Desire to interact well with people of different national and cultural backgrounds with an appreciation for other peoples and cultures. Interns should have a respect and appreciation for those of other denominations and organizations because they will often work closely with them on the field.
Education Requirements
- Basic awareness of missions, discipleship, and Christian service. The adequacy of this training will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
- Exposure to hermeneutics and the practice of relating biblical truths to others in their cultural context.
- Receive an orientation over EFM’s vision, mission, values, and policies.
Professional Experience
- Adequate practical experience in Christian service. This will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Note: A Passport with an expiration date at least 6 months after travel dates is required.
